  • Tasted double blind. This is a wine with tons of substance and so much dark fruit and spices that it was a bit monolithic and overbearing. With time it opened up more, revealed more layers and had his absolute great 95-97pts) moments. I guess in 10+ years this could be a 95+ pts wine. Certainly, rather modern in style, though, so probably not one for purists.

TN: While the nose is a bit timide on the palate it explodes, full of ripe darker fruit, herbs, and bright herbal notes. Feels a bit monolitic at first. With time it opens-up, revealing more spices,, lots of spices, more bright, fresh herbs, and more dark fruit. The tannins are of high quality but still with edges. Strong acidity backbone. A few great, nuanced moments but in the end it was still a bit too much of everything and with 200% intensity.

Decanting: Double decanted and back in the bottle two hours before consumption. I would give it a straight 2-3 hours in the decanter.

  • Tasted as part of a small Sangiovese vs Nebbiolo event. Ripe and pretty extracted red berry fruit, bordering at jam-like features, nicely integrated oak, elements of sweet spice and violets. Aging notes of tobacco and barnyard. Super-soft texture, even though the tannins still have quite a firm grip. Nice juicy and fruity, fresh acidity and a good length. This has aged gracefully and is drinking well now, but unlikely to get better I find.

  • bottle was left coravined after the one glass on 2/9.

pulling cork=barely stained. no soaking/soft underside. in almost TOO perfect condition... was so sturdy/sealed/intact that it required serious elbow grease.

much more elegant on the nose... quite pretty. softer on the palate, but tannin is definitely there! medium minus acid for brunello.

overall, still predominantly ripe plum character w/ oxidation

perhaps this just needed air to open and blow off excess funk. really nice and really beautiful color. no sediment

  • nose of straight (plum) jam and sangio funk. dark ruby/mild bricking. palate is as jam-packed as it smells but the fruit is not stewed and there's tons of acid and tannin left. Pleasant oxidation throughout.

still intense and quite the chore w/o food.

aside from rather rounded tannin and clear signs of oxidation, this doesn't seem like it's on its last breath. I am not sure something this ripe would take on more age gracefully though.

  • A touched corked, still drinkable and surprisingly good but it’s obvious that the remainder of these bottles need to be drunk.
