March Madness Wine Tasting: Served blind. My palate was completely shot at this point. I wish this had been served earlier in the evening and had been properly decanted. Bummer!

La Festa del Barolo: Gala Dinner (The Pool in NYC): This is just starting to really come together and maybe needs a bit more time to get to the ‘exact’ right place but there’s a lot to like about where it is going. This is more oak than some of the other wines and I feel like takes some time to integrate but once it does there’s a strength and power that can be very appealing. And a bit of smoothness. Wine is clearly very nice - would love to try again in maybe 5 years.

One of the top tastings of the trip. Incredible history, vineyard sites, knowledge- all patiently explained to a recent convert (me) of how damn good excellent Piedmont wines can be. With no investor the family strives to do what’s best- for each vineyard site and corresponding wine every vintage. If it’s an incredible bountiful vintage they may make 8,000 bottles however in a poor vintage they may declassify, sell bulk juice or by producing only the best possible, produce 2,000 (callout- illustrative purposes only and not suggesting other producers may not follow same). Highly recommended.
Dark fruit, red fruit, earth, truffles, walks the tightrope between fruit and savory. Tremendous finish. Beautiful wine on a perfect place. Excellent

SLDS April 2021: Licorice, blackcurrant, roses and white florals with some cherry as well. Controlled palate, blends the red fruit and spices well along with some smoky savoury notes. Great length and flow to this.
