opens with tar and roses on the nose. on the palate, the wine shows sour dark cherry fruit that is somewhat muted, some tar, and mostly resolved tannins. the wine sort of fades into the finish which yields the low score here for me. a bit disappointing overall

I didn't have much of this but what I did was a pleasant surprise! It has really unclenched since the last bottle I had back in 2020. It was all savory structure then. Now, the fruit has come to the fore and while the savoriness is still there, it is buffered by that fruit and some spice. The structure has relaxed to let that come out. This may be in the early part of a window. I may need to check out another bottle soon to confirm.

2010 Barolos at Terra Rossa with NLWTS (Terra Rossa, Upper Street): Ruby, ever so slightly tending towards garnet. Really cool, red fruited nose. Some sweetness; almost a little confected. Palate much less generous, and still massively tannic. NYR, for me. But super textbook. 90++

2010 Barolo (Terra Rossa, N1): Deep and heady bouquet - ripe, almost confected, strawberry, some lovely spiced notes, coriander and cracked black pepper, violet and soy. The tannins are slightly rustic and chunky which make it a great food match, along with fresh acidity. Generous and drinkable.

4.5 years between bottles makes all the difference. I didn’t think it would get better, due to lack of fruit, but it shows well at this point. It has come in balance, with fruit, acid and tannins all working together. The fruit is classic Nebbiolo sour cherry dominant.
3/28/2019 Note: Astringent and lacking fruit on day 1. Not much better on day 2. Well made, nice finish, but just not very appealing. Can’t see it getting any better. 88 pts.
