I think this producer is generally underrated but this wine itself is pretty mediocre. The lowest classification Barolo they offer, the Riva del Bric has a fairly pleasant nose that is soft with nice floral and eucalyptus notes. Where it falls short is the body: this just simply does have the structure to get better with age. It's too light, the fruit selection was not strict enough and even the 30 month aging in casks didn't really help. Very apparent when you see the colour, its shockingly light for such a young Barolo. Finish is medium with (too) strong notes of acidity that should tame a bit as time goes on but I really doubt I'd improve the score more than a point or two in five years.

Pale garnet colour. Classic nose of brewed tea, earthy potpourri, orange marmalade and wet stone nose. On the palate, spicy, dry tannins; firm, but elegant with a long, earthy finish. 5/5

A tightly knit yet not overly tannic wine, showing some oak together with a sweet fruit core. The wood aging seems to cover some of the camphor and floral nuances that are just apparent in its complex aromatics. The wine is dense and somewhat monolithic, needing more time, and seemingly made to be enjoyed later in its evolution.

My last bottle, in surprisingly good shape for its age. Quite mature but still with a freshness and not anywhere close to dead yet.

RussK. best of 2013 at wine watch. Still too tight and bitter.
