Bright, light golden colour. Petrol on the. Use plus some lemon zest. Palate is more lime with subtle hints of honey and caramel. Lovel mouth feel and a long finish all balanced out with some lightly crisped acidity.

Thursday hangout at Domaine (Chicago, IL): A very mature bottle of dry riesling, but made from fruit that seems quite ripe. Reductive smokiness on the nose, but some sweet orchard fruits and lime as well. Great acidity on the palate with a slightly oily texture that balances the acidity. Love the complexity here.

Developed and a touch of honey and kero with a mineral underline character and good lemon acidity. Drink well and on the aged profile but clearly has a long life ahead of it. Excellent mouth feel with a rich full flavoured palate.

2001 Grosset Polish Hill Riesling: a striking, glowing translucent gold/honeyed hue. Showing its age beautifully, reminding me of a sauterne without the viscosity. Maybe also an aged Tahbilk Marsanne. The nose immediately dispels those thoughts with an onslaught of kerosene. Strangely comforting. More like meeting a dear old friend with odd but endearing habits. But the palate is an unequivocal delight. So drinkable, and yet so contemplative. Too intense to spoil with food. Wow. I’ve had such varied luck with Grosset riesling, finding it often fails to live up to the vintage hype after a few years down the track (excepting the exceptional 2002’s), but this is an excellent wine.

Very pale with only a hint of singed brown sugar added to the citric flavours. Intense yet also well balanced without harshness.
