Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 91 points

  • At Jardin del Sol in Los Gigantes. On the nose notes of leather, oak and red fruit. On the palate medium bodied, smooth, matured, delivering red fruit, funky notes, a bit oak with a slightly austere finish. Smooth tannins. Paired nicely with tenderloin steak.

  • Very generous nose of brambles, oak, cream and vanilla. Soft and velvety. Juicy red berries, pencil, violets and a slight meatiness. On the first night this unfortunately fizzled out to leave a slight rubber taste and not much else, but on the second night it held together much better. Definitely needed a bit more time than I gave it.

  • Decanted and served.
Forward wine, on the fruit, modern Rioja designed for instant gratification but far away from the overcooked, jammy , over-oaked beasts that modern Rioja produces these days. Dark in colour of course. On the nose, ripe dark fruits, cacao, light oak but all in check. Palate wise it is quite straight forward, maybe a touch on the simple side, supple, round and very enjoyable. True low on the complexity but nothing harsh or overdone here. 90-91 can be enjoyed from now .

  • Splendide. Le rioja par excellence.
