Many typical Cab Franc characteristics. Cigar box, tobacco, smoke, vanilla, and light herbal notes at first. With some breathing out comes some red and dark berry aromas with some cooked/preserved fruit notes. A great effort from a growing region within Ontario.

It's a good effort for a Canadian red. It features some very decent, worthwhile and interesting flavour notes and a notably nice feeling on the palate in a mildly tart and watery solution that is made well enough to avoid any nasty surprises. Smoothly spicy, tangy and peppery in a nice way without being excessively so. While it has an attractive aroma and decent direction of the underlying flavour, it's unfortunately rather thin in places, giving it a Kool-Aid style consistency. It could use more flavour and concentration. Tannins are very good if a bit on the unripe, bitter side of things, but never in a bad way. Trace of sweetness gives it some balance and adds to the elegance, while the significant level of acidity livens it up. There's just enough good things along with absence of bad things here to make it dependably likeable and to appreciate the flavour notes when you've finally succeeded in finding them after a not-so-brief but inevitably worthwhile search. It's easy to imagine this being able to contribute and work successfully well in a blend.

Immediately on PnP it's smoky, vanilla, and a hint of bell pepper with underlying dark fruit. Palate is medium bodied with plenty of acidity as one would expect from this region and clearly needs a bit of time to open up.
A couple hours later, the fruit has come out as a slightly sappy dark raspberry/cherry and the bell pepper is more akin to herbs. A pretty solid wine here.

I think we waited too long to drink this. It was too far gone. Had to dump. :-(

Good nose of black fruit. Soft tannins, med acidity. Faded on 2nd day. Good value, but not great wine.
