  • Worth noting that the Veguin is now called a Gran Reserva. In 1996 it just said Reserva on the back label. This may explain why Cellar Tracker has two entries for the same wine.
    Bottle 3,553 of 40,000, 13.5% ABV.
Difficult to know the blend but obviously dominated by Tempranillo with touches of Graciano and Mazuelo.
Colour: deep brick red, med rim, brown tinge.
Nose: very elegant, mature yet still fresh, American oak mostly blows off swiftly, good ripe fruit, plums, blackberries, thyme, oregano.
Taste: Med body, rounded, soft, still notes of oak but good ripe fruit to balance it. Long finish, soft, blend of oak and ripe plums.
Overall, it develops well from being lean and closed at first to exciting plum and blackberry flavours after two hours decanting. Lacks a little structure but elegant nevertheless.
