  • This wine was a complete, stunning, and positive surprise. I used to buy Inniskillin 25 years ago and loved them at the time. I bought them recently and found them wonderful competent drinking wines but didn't think them as good as they used to be. I had bought this bottle in London, stored in my cellar, and then promptly forgot about it. I decided to open it several months ago, put it in the fridge - then opened something else. This time a wine friend was with us for a casual dinner so I decided to give it a try. The Inniskillin 2006 icewine vidal oak aged gold label was a revelation. I worried because someone told me they don’t age. But this was stunning. One of the best dessert wines I’ve had. The wild tropical fruits were all there: papaya, quince, passion fruit. These were complemented with apricots, raisins, spices (nutmeg? Even hints of cloves). The wine was layered unctuous intense but so so elegant - and left you wanting more and more. It had enough acidity to keep it fresh and suggest further ageing. The finish went on for like two minutes and the next morning i still had flashes of it in my mouth. My wife and our friend were both tapping the bottom of the glass and bottle to get every drop of the wine. It was a phenomenal wine experience, as close to perfection as I’ve ever tasted from Canada or from anywhere with sweet wines. It has many years of further ageing ahead, but it can be drunk now with amazing pleasure.
