Lovely, ethereal aromas of dry autumn leaves, black licorice, sage and black peppercorn that lead to a finessed, mushroom and fig driven palate showing good length and a lingering peppery finish.

Annual Tasting Group Holiday Party (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Very dark red color. PNP, drank a glass over an hour. Pretty similar to a bottle a year ago, maybe a bit more youthful. Cherry, lacquer, mineral, pencil, blue fruits, full bodied, medium tannins. 92+pts.

Very perfuming oriental medicines and black fruits, cider, custard, leather. Well integrated flavors and tannin. Le Chapelle 2004 is a relatively weak vintage, but showed its greatness well.

From magnum. This pours medium garnet in the glass with medium plus bricking, more than expected. The nose is very complex, lifted and mature showing light roast coffee, toffee, dried blueberry, slate, leather, and whisps of spice. The palate is quite resolved showing a core of sweet blueberry fruit with medium acid and medium minus tannin along a finish that lingers nicely. All in all this far exceeded my expectations. I've written off Jaboulet from this era but they do occasionally impress and this was one of those occasions. The only issue here is based on color, aromatics, and the palate this is fully mature, perhaps even at its peak. Great drinking today but I'd have concerns that this will hold up in say 10 years. Great drinking now from a well stored bottle (ex-domaine).

The First Christmas of New England @ Christmas WIMPS 2022 (La Trompette, Chiswick): Smoked meat with some ripe plum flesh, some smoke and crème de groseille lift. Palate well balanced with some jambon persillé notes. Savoury, rich and smoky. Good stuff.
