Pago de Los Capellanes, Ribera de Duero, Spain 2009
Colour red. Not yet yet showing brown. Nice clarity. On the nose black kirsch cherry. Nutmeg. On the palate - smooth. All tannins well integrated. Black cherry. Perhaps a bit back forest gateau as there is some cocoa notes and mild oak creaminess. Central note of good acidity running though it to give an almost citrusy note. Full bodied mouthfeel, but only 13.5 alc which feels warming but not hot or out of balance. Drinking really well.

Dark cherry cola, slightly over powered by the oak when tasted versus the 09 El Nogal. The El Nogal has so much more concentration and fruit purity covering the oak. The Reserva is a touch more angular and even darker. For the money upgrade to the El Nogal.

Glass stainingly dark, on the nose very ripe and concentrated, slightly jammy. On the palate surprisingly compact with firm, slightly drying and angular tannins. Good acidity, but rather sweet. Fine length. 89-90+

Opened and poured from bottle over 2 hours. Never really opened up and integrated for me. Muted front palate and tannic finish. Had higher expectations. Wouldn't drink this for years or long decant.

Smooth blueberry, fruitcake and cola. Nicely balanced with good Spanish acidity and ripeness from the vintage. Drinking well.
