  • delish, i bought on futures and this was really nice tonight, not showing any hints of brown, it got stronger as it sat open, a lovely gevry meat nose, cherry and earthy sweaty leather flavours, not completely integrated so i think this wine still will change, no harm drinking today… y uh m!!

  • I said three years ago that I would be queuing up my remaining bottles of this wine for near-term drinking. Then plans met reality. Still four more to go after this one, but hopefully similar results. Evolving red fruit and vibrant earth aromas lead into a vibrant palate expression that carries the earthiness through the finish. It's fabulously clean, while also showing a more rustic side of Gevrey than some of the more famous sites. It's hard to reconcile the bit of wildness with the nuance of the flavors. I guess that's just Burgundy - ever a mystery. Not the be all and end all of Burgundy expression, but if I wanted to introduce someone to the joys of aged Burgs, this would not be a bad wine at all to make my case.

  • I had the opportunity to drink the 2001 and 2006 side-by-side, which was a very instructive experience. Other than the 2006 still having more red fruit depth (no surprise), the wines were incredibly similar, down to the iron/mineral core that was totally apparent from first sip to last. I was expecting to see a little more Jadot "house style" imprint, but both wines were quite transparent to their site. I came away with the impression that the vintages are not all that different, just 2001 being farther along, and ready to drink, while the 2006 (which had been double decanted 12 hours earlier, versus a mere 2 hours of slow ox for the 2001) was open and good to go, but could still benefit from a few years (2-3) of age. Finishing off the last bits about 3 hours after we started, my impressions were consistent.

I will be queuing up my six remaining bottles of the 2001. If I had the 2006 I would sprinkle them in, but be in no hurry. Lovely wines both.

  • Lovely stuff; a beautiful scent combining ripe fruit, savoury earth, spice and a faint meatiness that leads into a palate full of polished, silken fruit and earth with fairly gentle tannins underneath and bright acidity. Fantastic depth and balance, this is drinking beautifully right now but has the structure and stuffing to suggest a long life ahead.

  • Shows tightly wound flavours of plums, black cherries, red berries and earth with faintly meaty notes underneath. Quite tannic and backwards right now, giving the impression that it needs a lot more time in the cellar.
