Elegant and sensual in its own right. Bouquet came across a tad broody with dark cherries, cloves and leather. On the palate it came across in a display of elbows out strength and muscle with density and heft. Fantastic fruit and concentration with excellent length - this is a huge wine that will need more time to flesh out. Tannins integrating well and this is drinking today but surely time will bring along more upside.

During a 2012 Burgundy blind tasting dinner. Overall the vintage showed quite tannic still and with a wide dispersion between the top names and lesser known Domains. Definitely drink the 2013 and 2014 before the 2012 and stick to quality producers. TN: Bright red fruit here with soft and elegant palate, finally well managed tannins. Aromatically only medium complexity though.

Wines at Smaller Meals and Between Meals; 6/24/2018-7/5/2018 (Cote d'Or): Meaty spice and a wide cross-section of cherry and berry aromas and flavors. Still a little oaky and most certainly still firm and brooding, but this is a powerful wine with excellent weight and length. Good now, but with great potential 2025 forward. My first time tasting the 2012, and I was happy to discover afterward that I three 6-packs resting comfortably back home in the cellar.
Spontaneous Mini-Paulée-Roumier, Rousseau, Raveneau... (Burgundy): Half bottle. Full ruby. Seductive spicy nose. Medium to full bodied, much rounder, riper, and fruit-driven than the Rousseau. Next to that wine, it seems a bit simple, but that is unfair since it is quite excellent in its own right with strong material. Needs at least another 5 years to gain complexity.

Very high quality and well balanced, with juicy, bright fruit, a dusting of earth, and nice concentration. But this is pretty tight at the moment after being open a couple years ago. Let it rest.
