A pity, really, for this now out- balance, alcoholic, dry offering differs so from the exuberant, rustic and adolescent wine opened under a year ago. One hopes that the wine will come together in a year or two, but for now, the bramble fruit, dense woody, simple dark red cherry flavors are hidden under a veil of tannic, almost flavorless notes with only a passing nod to Pinot. Tried with a large Coravin glass one night and decanting the second.

Rich, rustic, ready to consume, this door opener to the wonderful Taupenot line of fresh and multi-faceted burgundy remains a very good value. The bottles vary a tiny bit but the overall sense of rough velvet, briary tones, dark, sweet cherry, smoke, and plenty of moist earth make for a nice food wine. Minimal decanting required.

A very nice restaurant find at a reasonable cost-- far better than comparably priced Bourgogne Rouge. Taupenot brings its fruit and elegance to its entry level offering, serving up nicely integrated briar, dark cherry, moist earth and a sense of Fall. Rustic but charming and delicious, with a thick, forestry Pinot blanket that never varies on the tongue. While not its wonderful Chambolle 1 ere or Mazis, this is worth seeking for restaurant value.
