  • Very reluctant cork. Bright mature red.
On the nose smoke, rose, Turkish Delight, Indian spice, a pleasant hint of animale, leather, cured meats.
Palate lighter end of medium bodied but still quite prominent tannic grip which was a little astringent and a trace of alcohol burn. Sweet strawberries, confection, rose hip, dark humus earth but predominantly a mineral wine that is quite feminine and elegant. Complexity continued to evolve over several hours and really quite lovely, just the tannin detracted a bit.

  • The bottle was in good condition; the cork was almost completely soaked, but there were no signs of leakage, the filling level was very good (2cm headspace between cork and wine). The wine was medium to light garnet in colour in the center, turning light orange brown towards the edges, and threw some fine sediment. It offered red fruit, earthy notes, mushroom, tobacco, iron and some chocolate on the nose. Was there still a whiff of discrete oak? On the palate the wine showed sweet red fruit, mushroom and earthy notes, paired with medium-plus acidity, well-integrated tannin, a good mouthfeel and very good length. The light- to medium-bodied, balanced, medium-complex wine seemed light on its feet yet had good concentration and drank very well.
