Earth, leather, baked blackcurrant, a little cassis, quite polished though, and ripe, touches of coffee and plain chocolate hints. A little sweet spice and leather with time and a little chalky minerality. On the palate it's all Cassis, cream and lovely floury textured tannins that persist long and carry the finish. Alcohol warmth intrudes a touch here but not overtly. Nice in a big and boisterous way.

Coravin fun - Randoms (Kennards, Waterloo): From Coravin. Rich, slightly overripe, ripe black cherry and currant. Vanilla, cedar and sweet spice: Smells worked and ripe. And so it proves on the palate. A little raisining to the fruit and drying tannins as well as some alcohol warmth makes me want to reach for the BBQ tongs.

Six nations tasting (pyrmont wharf, sydney): muted savoury blackcurrant and pencil shavings, graphite…juicy, slightly sour in fact, black fruit backed by sizable tannic grip. hmm
