Perfectly acceptable light bodied every day drinking Crianza. I had my first taste at a resto in central Madrid in Oct 2015, and inquired before ordering whether the reasonable price was for a glass. Answer: No sir - that's for the bottle! Thus began my discovery that house Crianzas and reds in Spain are infinitely more tolerable and reasonably priced than in the US. When I discovered the bottle at Total Wine, I picked it up. As my sommelier at my usual resto in the US asserted it must have been the sheer joy of going to Spain that led you to even enjoy such a pedestrian bottle, my thought was ... uh no. Stay thirsty, my friends, for inexpensive drinkable reds.

Splash decanted 15 minutes before tasting. This stood out as a modern style young Rioja in a Barolo / Burgundy / Old school Rioja tasting.
Dark red color. Sweet cherry, oak (too much), medicinal/ cough syrup. Similar palate. Medium body, medium acidity & medium finish. Not a re-buy. 89-90 range.

Popular winery from Rioja Alta , Siglo Crianza is the premium label or even a signature wine, classic blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo grapes, ageing for 12 months in American oak casks and min. for 6 months in bottles. Tasting: garnet red with purple color, typical desirable 'Rioja' taste: ripe fruits with wooden toast and vanilla and touch of herbs, very intensive and long lasting, concentrated, rich, goody. Character: full bodied, alc 13,5%. Definitely value for money, also an original package wine. Cheap good Rioja, price paid only 7 eur!
