  • Colour: Red/granite, dark and brooding looking as previous note, very little sediment.
Aromas : Plums and cherries and licorice. Raw beef and coffee beans. Topped off with tobacco and a touch of stewed fruit notes.
Flavours: Flavours repeat aromas with more emphasis of deep dark fruits, dried berries, figs/stewed prunes. Feels a bit like amarone without the sweetness or thickness. Gentle dusty tannins to close out ... dries slightly on the finish but is not overpowering.
Overall : Excellent condition, a thicker style wine unlike many Valpol styles. Enjoyable wine.

  • Dark cherry, walnut, mineral, leather, and earth on a velvet frame.

Nice wine, just could be a bit more vibrant and energetic as it seemed a bit mellow, though not flat. Drink now - 2024, not seeing much more upside

  • Incredibly good Superiore from Roccolo Grassi. Was a little nervous if 2010 had started to drop a little. But it delivered perfectly, and it will last for several more years, nice fruit and nice balance. You who have this vintage, enjoy, let it get some air 1-2 h 👌🍷

  • Much different then I expected.
From the producer .... Roccolo Grassi Valpolicella Superiore is made from a combination of fresh grapes and slightly dried grapes in equal percentage. The slight dehydration of the grapes lasts 20 days. 20 months aging in wood.
14.5% alc. Not your average Valpolicella.
My tasting notes .... Stellar wine, big, thick and inky like an amarone without the sweetness of an amarone
Dark and brooding. Red and browning in colour. Aromas of dark drying plums and cherries, and the smell of a rare bbq'ed ribeye with a coffee coating and oozing juices. Complex with tobacco, mineral notes. Flavours of drying plums and ripe cherries, concentrated, deep and persistent. Thick and ripe but not sweet chewy tannins. Rich overall, with some bitterness. Long finish. May be slightly past its peak. Would like some more/fresher berry fruit.
On the 2nd day I did get more of the fig/prune and sweeter fruit elements to the wine.

  • Will often return to Roccolo Grassi wines, their Superiore is no exception. There is often a feeling of stable in their Sup at a young age, even this 11-year-old, however very little. Day 2, this wine is absolutely perfect, elegant with fine fruit. This wine will last at least 3-4 years 👍🍷
