Not quite as rich and fruity as the 2012. This starts off with some nice dark purple color. When we poured into the decanter, the aromas were kind of shy. What we got was mild roses, mulled blackberry and alcohol. The entry to the palate is a rustic sharpness we have learned to be typical to Bonarda, The fruit actually rounds out as it works it's way through the palate, most likely from the addition of the Merlot. Surprising mid palate, also a contribution of the Merlot. The fruit is sharp mulberry, raspberry preserves, black cherry and blackberry. A vanilla creaminess from oak. The finish leaves a slightly sunburnt, ripe black fruit taste.
