  • drinking well "young".
    A slightly lighter style which I have found to be the case for 13 vintage bdx.
    will it age well? another few years may see development but perhaps these 2013 wines are best enjoyed for their fruit.

  • Long tears stain the glass , with a little fading at the rim. The nose is a muted medium of plums, vanilla and cherries, chocolate menthol, spicy almond, and delicate white flowers. Medium bodied, with high acidity, the palate shows flavours of sour plums,and currants with a dry spicy finish. Light and acidic, this wine does the job with food. Lacks sufficient fruit for long aging. In the past would have been classed as " a luncheon claret " - a lovely expression conjuring up images of leathery gentlemen's clubs in London's Pall Mall! At £13 ( $15 ) from German discount retailer Lidl , this represented exceptional value.

  • Mix ruby colour, smells like a low key Bordeaux vintage with mineral notes trumping fruit. Palate shows core of red fruits, raspberry that I find in Bordeaux. Finish is ok, but the wine trends to lack depth overall, still very pleasant. Food not hold up well overnight, showing thin and lacking substance on day 2. Day 3 and 4 however showed definite improvement, with the palate filling out again.

  • Charming and correct left bank claret from a minor vintage; lowish concentration with cool, cedary aromatic profile.

  • Mineral, spice shadowed over fruit. Insufficient body to host the high acidity. Mediocre old world.
