  • I haven't had this wine in over four years, but this really held its own throughout the evening. Still a powerful and strong showing, but not overbearing or loud. When I kept revisiting it, the flavors became even more amalgamated and complex. Where it seems some Bevans may implode under a decade's time, this monkey shows again just how the stars aligned for Bevan in 2012 across the board. This Syrah is no exception. Still big. Still Bevan. Paired great with a homemade blue cheese gnocchi (perhaps the best gnocchi I've had - I gotta get my buddy's recipe!)...which I'm sure helped elevate the wine even further in the pairing department.

Drink now or hold for a few years. It's still got the stuffing and frame to seemingly carry it further without eating itself.

  • Purchased at auction and had to open one. Inky, wonderfully fruit forward. As the wine opened up over an hour it evolved with nuanced black cherry and chocolate. Elegant and complex.

  • Dark, opaque Syrah with mouth-coating viscosity. Dark fruit, grilled meat, asphalt and pepper. This is a beautiful Syrah. I prefer less alcohol but this wine overcame the alcohol. Really fun to drink. (And this was out of a less than average glass) Long long finish!

  • Big wine, dark purple, layers of dark fruits, blackberries, plum, bacon fat, well integrated tannins, long, long finish

  • A great showing. With some exposure to some decanted air, this was delivering beautifully. It’s a big wine of course, but it showed a nice balance and weight this time around. Black, dark fruit, with some asphalt and dark earth elements that added interest. Typical for Bevan, the fruit is front and center on the attack, with a completely mouthcoating experience that highlights the sexiness of the 2012 vintage. This appears to be entering into a really nice drinking window. Still a good deal of intensity and concentration, so in terms when to pop the cork, it depends on how you prefer your wine to perform. For me, this was in a great spot.

This paired outstandingly with perfectly cooked lamb with a balsamic reduction. A standout Syrah. Too bad 2013 was the last vintage of this Syrah. Drink now and over the next 5+ years (for my palate preference).
