  • Welschriesling is quite famous in the Oltrepò Pavese area, but according to the maker's site this wine should be made of good old Riesling, the same variety grown in Alsace or along the Rhine.
It's not the wine I expected, the colour is yellow with some golden shades, but you don't feel the normal honeyish exuberance of Riesling. Instead there's a well defined almond character together with acacia, melon, pineapple, green banana and yuzu (a japanese citrus fruit). In the mouth the acidity is above average, but the wine is not too sharp. Body is medium and aftertaste has a pleasant almond bitterness.
This is not your average riesling, but once you overcome the surprise you will enjoy it.
