  • I bought a half-dozen untasted on the strength of a 5 star rating from the RVF when the wine was young but, when I got round to opening a bottle, it was shut down tight, tannic and acidic. This bottle (the last) and a previous one three years ago were the first giving any sort of pleasure albeit in a somewhat austere vein and far off a 5 star level. Colour was still quite youthful and the nose somewhat shy. The palate was medium/full bodied with some depth and roundness showing red fruit (attractive sour cherry and some black currant) and minerals and there were some secondary notes of tar and discreet leather; the tannins were still firm but still a touch dry and acidity was lively but both were more civilised than with the first four bottles. Length was only fair. "This wine is too young" came from the other side of the table. IMO it has now reached a quality plateau and will not get any better but it may stay like this for some years. Good at last.
