  • Clean and fruity, with good acidity and minerality. More complex than the regular cuvee. A touch of sweetness.

  • A Côte des Blancs vintage Blanc de Blancs from the villages of Cramant and Oiry. Pretty recently disgorged.

Somewhat developed lemon yellow color; no noticeable green hues that were evident in the younger Colin bottlings. Somewhat restrained, delicate and attractive nose with developed notes of toasty autolysis, ripe citrus fruits, some bruised apple and a hint of yeasty, leesy richness. Despite its quite developed nose the wine feels very fresh and youthful on the palate with its crisp, lemony citrus fruit flavors. There are lots of complex notes underneath - like almonds, oat-and-honey cookies, some dried tropical fruits and a hint of chalky minerality - but overall the wine feels very sharp and refreshing with good, focused intensity. This is not a big and muscular Champagne, but neither is this a delicate and austere Blanc de Blancs. There are crisp, sharp and youthful flavors of tart green apple, lemony citrus fruits and saline minerality in the lengthy aftertaste, but there are also some delicate, autolytic nuances of biscuits and nuts as well.

This is Blanc de Blancs that shows great intensity, depth and power - unlike those more delicate lower-tier bottlings of Colin. Although this wine also shows that minimalist Blanc de Blancs style the house is known for, this isn't that restrained and austere either, but instead a pretty complex and impressive effort with good, sharp structure. Despite its somewhat developed notes, the wine feels its on its way up and it still has a lot to go - I can expect the wine to develop at least a further decade and keep for at least another. Tremendous balance of aged, autolytic complexity and focused Blanc de Blancs minimalism. Great value at 40€.
