  • Very nice place right now. Good depth, dusty tannins, dark berry fruit with depth. Cassis, black pepper, spices and some herbs on the finish.

  • Ok, but still a bit underwhelming

  • Opened 4 hrs prior to tasting, ≈3+ hrs of that being uncapped

    “A blend of 54% C.S. & 46% Shiraz made with fruit from Wrattonbully, Barossa, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek, & Robe that was aged 12 mos in AM oak hogsheads (40% new & 60% 1-y.o.); 14.5% ABV, 6.9 g/l T.A., & pH: 3.57;”

    N: Attractive iron, savory, ripe berries, & smoke with some pyrazines -- & other unparsables;

    P: Med body; RNDISH entry with very NICE, ALMOST swtish boysenberry frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by an astringent PUCKER which SEAMLESSLY works itself into the very LONG, balanced, very, VERY slightly bitterish finish with a sense of elegance & TANGY, swtness to the definitely firming, yet very, VERY fine tannins. May very well not yet have peaked -- & our storage has benn < pristine. HOLLERS out for food, & may well CONIINUE to do so through its 15th, longer if your storage is > ideal than ours. My EXC/EXC+, quite likely the higher with time. Note: Might well decant next time (it wasn't feasible today) as it throws a BIT of sediment. 97 pts James Halliday (9/23/14), 94(2x) & 90(2x) winealign.com, 93 RJonWine (1/26/15), 17.5 & 17+/20 Jancis Robinson, + NUMEROUS other scores & medals on wine-searcher's Tasting Notes pg. [As of late Nov '19, wine-searcher still shows 3 sources @ $69, 75, & $150].

  • Pop and pour. Super dark and deep and rich maroon. Coats the glass when swirled. Nose is almost jammy but not quite. Black raspberry, black currant, kirsch, eucalyptus and iodine. Wow! Very full bodied. First taste is all about the Shiraz. Big, black and bold fruit flavours. Very ripe and in your face. Then comes the Cab with black currant and a bit of acidity to cut through the richness. Mouth coating richness. Very hedonistic! Long lingering finish that still has a tannic bite and comes across as dry. Full on Aussie fruit bomb that is delicious on it's own as a sipper, but would be hard to pair with anything but hunks of BBQ meat.
