Have been looking forward to popping one of these for a while. Wife was heading home from work early on a Friday, so I asked her to pop this so it could breathe. Spent 4 hours getting slow ox, and another 2 in the decanter.
I will admit that while I had the best of intentions, I got pulled into an impromptu happy hour -- and a few beers and an Old Fashioned later, I'm not sure that my palate exactly had its "A game" for this wine. So want that "full disclosure" out there for this note.
If I was shooting blind, I probably would have pegged this as a Left Bank Bordeaux. It struck me with those great notes of stone and a bit of damp forest. Fruit (black and purple) was certainly there, but was dark and wrapped tight. Nice depth. Pretty legit tannins, even after a lot of air. Very well composed medium + finish. Would never have guessed this was Rutherford juice.
Very nice wine that I would put at 94+ based on this experience. Think it will benefit from some time laying down.

I can't believe I only had 1 bottle. This rivals any bottle of Carter. An incredible wine by Mike Smith!!
