  Followed the community guidance and opened at 4 and decanted to eat around 730. By 6 had started to open. This is a big wine and has years to still develop and soften. Is balanced with a lot of structure and complexity. Paired with a grilled ribeye with lemon olive oil and arugula. Needs something substantive to match the power and depth.

  Exceptional “Barolo” although not classified as, in earlier vintages. This is super complex dissplaying a firework of flowers, red and vlack befrieres and classic notes of roses, tar and a whiff of Tobacco. Love it!! Decanted 3 hours before serving

  A full shade or two lighter than the Conteisa. Immediately more fragrant and open than that wine with strong menthol, spice, and red fruit. Open with delicious red-tinged fruit complemented by some tar at the end. Lower tannins to resolve. Supple, elegant, airy, and much less musclebound than its 1997 running mate. Outstanding now and incredibly impressive for the vintage.

  Decanted @ 4:00 served @ 7:30 still has a remarkably youthful color, opaque core with a darker fruited nose than prior bottles, clearly opening after a few hours in the decanter. At serving this was in a good place, powerfully fruited with smoke and tar notes adding an earthly complexity which was easily carried by the wines fine gained tannins, acidity and minerality. Balanced with a silky texture leading to a persistent finish… this remains my favorite Gaja.
