  • Nice wine. Poured a dark maroon into the glass. Almost black! Overall, this wine is still locked up a bit but starting to show its potential after 30 to 60 minutes. Just when you think this is going to be a full bodied jammy and somewhat overdone cab, it pulls back and tickles your feet a little and shows you its complexity. Herbal and blackberry currant, dark nose but still sharply youthful. Entry of the wine with great balance of licorice, blackberry, a little young saddle leather, yet still having that flinty kind of characteristic you get from a well done Spring Mountain wine. This one actually gets a little bit LIGHTER in the middle where there is still a blackberry core, but lots of grit and personality, that gave way to a great finish. Lots of character on the finish. Still tannic, crushed rock, young black fruit, some tootsie roll, a little bit of vanilla and pie spice. If this makes any sense, the power of this wine is in it's subtlety. It's not a wine that will just up and slap you in the face, but it is a wine that will still be going in another 15 years. Drink now with about an hour of air, or drink until 2035 or so.
