  • Peach, apples, rocks, and quince on the perfumed nose. Medium+ acidity with minerals and lemon zest on the palate. Medium finish. Very good for the price.

  • Medium yellow. Pear skin aromas. Medium weight with early glycerine but for Mâcon, surprisingly tart citrus and minerality on the back end. Pretty serious rendition which could use a couple of years to mellow.

  • Monday night Blinds at Nopa—Take 6 with TH (Nopa SF): Blind 3: White
    Clear, day-bright.
    Pale straw, medium tears.

    NOSE:
    Diminished intensity - non-aromatic variety:
Underripe pear, vague apple (golden delicious), ripe meyer lemon.
Oak: used barrels - slight oxidative nutty tones.

    PALATE:
Medium body, medium alcohol - 13%?
High acidity, mostly strong tartaric acid.
Some heft to the midpalate texture. And some bitterness (is it due to phenolics or oak?)

    CONCLUSIONS:
This is a non-aromatic white from a cool climate in an Old World style. Due to lemon, green apple tones, possible varietals are Chardonnay (Godello?). There’s a slight green tinge to this that says youthful.

    Conclusion:
Chardonnay from the Macon or other satellite appellations, 2013. Something that reminds me of a wine I blinded here a long time ago - the Les Heretiers du Comte Lafon Macon.

    Actual:
It’s the same wine, back on the list:
2013 Les Heretiers du Comte Lafon, Macon-Villages
Again, this is like shooting fish in a barrel, but in our defense, we thought it improbable it would be back on the list by the glass, given the active rotation at Nopa.

I still like this: Score: between 8.5 and 9.

  • Monday night Blinds at Nopa - Take 2 (with MB) (Nopa SF): Clear, day-bright.
Pale gold with reflections of green in the glass.
    No gas/sediment.

Moderate minus intensity nose, well-integrated and balanced of green apple, ripe yellow apple, unripe pear, hint of warm stones, hint of peach / stone fruit.
No evidence of oak. Clean, youthful.
Moderate minus in complexity. The aromas on the nose are well-balanced and clustered around each other in space. Texturally, the nose is like slightly cool butter being spread upon a hearty dense slice of bread.

In the mouth, dry, moderate minus body, moderate minus alcohol. Again, flavors of green apple, pear, lean fruit, warm stones.
    No hint of tannins.
Moderate minus complexity, very nicely balanced (fresh and vibrant, if not exuberant in flavor), the finish is moderate minus in length - it stops a bit short and the tart acidity carries on without the apple/pear/stone fruit flavor.

Score: Very nice! Between 8.5 and 9
