This is holding up very well, with no sign of fading, much to my surprise. I suppose that attests to the quality of Foxen winemaking. Sweet dark fruits on the nose — notes of plum, black cherry, blueberry, and hint of barbecue sauce. Fruit forward on the palate. Soft texture. Resolved tannins. My only criticism — a small one — is that the 12 years did not yield greater complexity. But it's in a really nice spot right now; there's no need to hold on to it any longer.

Last wine of the evening and it opened up quite nicely. Nice tannins. Blueberry and leather are two descriptors. Pretty good with the ribeye and after with some chocolate cake.

Popped this last night with no decant, and followed over 4.5 hours or so. Saved 1/2 of the bottle to follow up on again tonight.
Didn't really know what to expect with this one and was quite pleasantly surprised. Nice dark purple color in the glass with little fading around the rim. Rich backbone and a plush palate presence are the most striking elements of the wine to me. The fruit leans toward the blue and black tones, and there is a background element of iron like minerality. Plenty of fruit, tannins and acid, and still quite young. This is quite nice, and what I look for in a Santa Ynez Valley syrah. I look forward to seeing how this evolves on night two.

Last bottle, wish there was more! Very inky and purple. Bursting with jammy fruit flavors.

Drank well after dinner. A bit of black fruit (maybe cola?).
