  • A generous gift from my friend Gaby several years back, this has been in the cellar for about 5 years. Pre-Easter dinner in OC with family, good excuse to open this. Slow oxed for about 45 minutes, drank over an hour.

Dark garnet core with some thinning at the edge. Expressive nose of dark fruits and faint tobacco. Palate showing blackberry, dark cherry, light licorice, cocoa. Plums, dried flower and dark fruit persist through the mid palate. Full body and long finish.

My first experience with this wine, obviously the Rolland pedigree is of interest. I don't know of other Malbec based wines he is involved with...may be unique in that respect. This is nicely aged at this point. A fruit forward wine as one expects from Argentine Malbec, this was rounded, tannins softened and not overly ripe. In a great spot now, we had with Italian food - which was great - this would obviously be great with steaks or other savory foods. Great expression of the varietal, in a good spot, I think it will be at its best over the next 5 years.
