Tasted over 2 days. Oak is at the forefront on the nose and palate on the pop 'n pour. Even after several hours of slow ox'ing, fruit is struggling to peek out from the oak and tannin, so I vacuvin'd and left overnight at room temp (68F - 72F). On the second evening, still the fruit is not opening up yet, but finally after a couple of hours and lots of swirling the glass you get a glimpse of the Cali Pinot. This is a big Pinot for sure. The oak influence is way too much for my palate at this stage. The fruit is there to handle it eventually, maybe 5 - 10 years, but I'm pretty oak intolerant, so this will probably never be in my wheelhouse totally. Just not crazy about prominent vanilla and cocoa flavors in my wines, but I know many others like them. Not really sure why, because these flavors do not come from grapes. Just not a fan. Funny, the 2012 Bougetz Eminence Cab has more new oak on it (according to the spec sheet on the web site), but it is not at all overt like this Pinot, and I absolutely loved that wine.
