Clear, medium garnet color with a lightened, brownish/orange rim. Clean, medium nose of juniper, cloves, liquorice, cabbage, vegetal, with resinous and oak aromas. Dry, Full bodied, medium acidity, medium tannins, good alcohol. Flavors of resin, leather, tar, blackcurrants, prunes, jam, cloves, medicinal, white pepper. Short to medium finish. Decent quality. Went well with a hearty red sauce and baked chicken.

If I had tasted this blind, I would never have pegged it as a Rioja. Medium color, a faint nose smelling of licorice and leather. Rough tannins, some dark fruit, very high acidity. Rings a bit hollow at mid-palate, and finishes short. There is not enough oak or fruit to balance the acidity, and no varietal character. Very forgettable wine. Still very young, and a few more years in the bottle may mellow it out a bit, but I don't see this ever amounting to much.

This is pretty straightforward, but Tempranillo is very forgiving with some maturity.

Nice, but nothing special.
