It has been a while since I've had a Big Basin Syrah - I was surprised to find no bottles in the cellar other than this recent purchase of 6 2013/2015 bottlings. The nose outperformed the palate on this occasion, showing big fruit/smoked meat power like I remember with a top note of funky violets. The palate was more savory in a good, green peppercorn way, but still a bit tannic under the surface, which showed more on day 2. Certainly drinkable now but I'd give it a year or three. 91+?

Even better second day. Rich with lead pencil, wood ash, ripe plum. Medium long finish, lots of life left in future bottles.

Drank over 3 days.
Medium bodied. Fine tannins. Fragrant violets and dark, rich, purple fruits. Long finish.

Lighter blueberry fruit and a purple colour. Grippy tannin. Another restrained style of wine from Big Basin. Cedar and mint finish.
