I posted comments recently for the 2014 vintage, which you can read. The 2013 mirrors my description almost to the letter. It is another outstanding offering from L'Aventure like all their wines. The 2014 is a little more approachable and offers a slightly more enjoyable drinking experience. The '13 is spicier w/stronger tannins and has not reached it's pinnacle yet. I believe in several years it will command a 96 score from me like the '14.

Brought to a dinner, popped and poured. Could easily pass for a mature top-notch C9P from a ripe year. Smooth and delicious; no one varietal stands out; no noticeable heat, either. Probably at peak; will likely plateau for a year or two.

Bring an interesting wine theme: Guessed 2015 Napa Cab. Heavily extracted with monolithic, syrupy dark red fruit. An artificial concentration to the wine, with the texture being smoothed to oblivion. Quite a contrast to the Domaine des Tours as a Grenache blend.

Past prime for me, a little thin and separated. The high abv isn't helping here. Nose is welcoming with oak, mint, cherries, candied rose petal, hibiscus syrup. The palate is interesting with the smokey mourvedre and elegant floral and berry flavors. They’re muddled by the high abv and acid though.
Dont get me wrong this is going to smoke a lot of wines head to head because of the quality winemaking and finer flavors. If the alcohol was 13-14% and this was richer, silkier texture, the wine would be tremendous.
