  • Knowing what I plopped, I am confident in saying it's a typical Margaux. (Had I not known the label, I'm not so sure I would know 😔)

Cork: broke in two plus a billion crumbs. Soaked halfway.
    Fill: lower neck.
Colour: like a classic Barolo from 2010.
Nose: a bit rustique with beautiful Bdx earth and olive brine.
Mouth: a perfectly balanced amazing wine of a style and type that I'm fortunate to fully enjoy every once in a while. Acidity M+, tannins: mainly dissolved but there's still a decent grip and it grew throughout the evening. A beautiful kiss of autumnal leaves on a dry day. Bdx earth, olive brine, sumi ink for the backdrop. In the forefront are amazing aromas of red berries, spring's unfurling ferns and a superbly refined type of extremely attractive pipe tobacco, licorice, dark chocolate, lipstick and Polish plums.

The wine is arguably at its last run of being a generally easy-to-approach wine for the general drinker. Oxidation is not prevalent. It's still going strong 💪 and displaying beautiful and pure, red berries.

My guess is that btls with good corks/levels will continue to deliver good experiences for the plebeians until 2028-ish. And for us nerds: at least until 2040.

Wife blinded (allergic to aged wines) approved of this as ++not old++. Unusual for 10+ year wines, but expected for this one.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

Two days later, one generous glass kept under cork.

Structurally an even better wine, but aromatically more towards old style coughing syrup...

Conclusion: this humble wine is on a roll on this humble vintage. It's lovely and then some!

  • Slightly passed its peak. Medium acidity and tannin. Medium body. Still good to drink after 1 hr opening.

  • Flasche von Bergen Aachen. Seit 2011 immer in Dormagen horizontal gelegen. Info neck. Davor seit Erwerb klimatisiert gelagert. Typischer Margaux. Weich, aromatisch, süßlich, etwas Walnuß. Reifer 80er Jahre Bordeaux mit niedrigem Alkohol aber viel Aroma. Toller Trinkfluss, tolle Eleganz! So bis mindestens 2026+. 89-90 Punkte? Very Charming!

  • Chateau, Lascombes 1981

  • Slight TCA. Still fresh but to much TCA to be enjoyable.
