OK, definitely some bottle variation at this age. Unlike the last bottle -- which I think had the same provenance -- this one is remarkable. The nose is ripe, but it has a lot of energy, a bit of burn and mocha, in the best scenario for new wood torched heavy and then aged 15 years.. The palate has a chunk of fruit, a chunk of oak, some good acid, some licorice and tar...what more could one want?
After the last bottle I'd decided to bid a fond farewell to 2005. But just when I thought I was out...it pulled me back in.

(Pax Syrah Griffin's Lair) Very appealing blueberry, blackberry and jasmine nose; concentrated, rich, blackberry, blueberry and caramel palate (like an amped up version of the Walker Vine Hill), with white pepper toward medium-plus finish 92-94 pts.

Rhone Birthday 2022; 11/4/2022-11/6/2022: I liked this quite a bit tonight. Spicey and smokey, with plenty of lift. Tannins mostly resolved at this point.

Still black and meaty! Super savory in the mouth. Make sure to drink it with an aged ribeye off a hot Mesquite grill.
