This brandy comes from the 1918 solera, after distillation it spends 12 years in cask. In character it is somewhat reminiscent of a Benedictine but with much less sweetness. Quite ethereal in spite of the strong alcohol content. Good length My wife, who normally does not like any strong alcohol was quite partial to it.

A private lunch (Restaurant Inter Scaldes **, Kruiningen, Netherlands): From the 52-barrique San Cristino solera started in 1948, annual production 3000 bottles, bottle no. 1998, bottled 26 January 2013, 40% ABV. Rich and woodsy, real firewater balanced by the natural sweetness of the Pedro Xímenez, very powerful, intense but just manages to avoid rawness, flavoursome, very good length.
