  • Only allocated 3 bottles of the SC a year, I usually suck them down way too quickly, as they are SO good right out the gate! 2019's long gone, so to try any with age, I have to go secondary. This is the oldest RM I've had to date...cork was sawdust...decanted the pieces out then put back in bottle for 30mins...gorgeous and intense nose of crushed tart berries, sour tangerine, dried roses, wild underbrush, cinnamon stick, little sous bois...really WILD nose! Very cloudy, rusty ruby and orange color...with specs of cork...in the mouth it's just as wild as the nose! Tart and puckering with cherry sours and orange/grapefruit...still very bright with a nice snap of acidity...fruit drying a little, but still holding on in a dried candied fruit fashion...killer exotics of sassafras, smoked vines, xmas spices, whole cluster funk, coffee grounds. The brightness and acid rush is definitely the player here...doesn't have the depth and expressive complexity as the 06 Summa/OV I had in 2020...but for a cheapo entry level AVA at 18yrs old...I think this wine rocks!

  • I know, who is this nut to hangs on to a humble Sonoma Coast for this long? Wasn't my intent, it got buried! Am I sorry? Well, no! Amazingly, this is still plenty alive. Cork came out great with just a waiters cork screw. There is just a bit of bricking at the edge, but barely. Great nose right off the bat, with loads of cranberry, a touch of orange peel, red cherries, and earth. Very fine on the palate, with fully resolved tannins, great acidity, bright red fruit, and muted spice notes. Drink now!

  • On the nose, cherry soda, herbs, and modest earthiness, on the palate, the fruits were there but not a lot of dynamics, got some heat on the finish. I prefer the nose over the palate. Think this wine may be better at younger age.

  • July 2018 Rivers-Marie Visit (At Mending Wall winery): Poured bind. This seems from a riper vintage, as the aromatics tee that up. Round, intense and plush with dark raspberry, some oak barrel tones that shade and richen it. Finishes a little crunchy. Pretty amazing this is coming up on 15 years and is holding right together. Delicate in style? Well, no. But this is the early craft of RM and it shows the wines can age.

  • On the down slope, but still quite fresh with medium body cherry fruit and good acidity. Some herbal and earth notes add interest. But better in it's youth.
