  • I deleted my note from 2015 that way overrated this which I had to confess after direct comparison with this Talisker Distiller's Edition and the Ardmore 12 Port Wood Finish. It does contain the "metallic" indicator of youth mentioned here. The Talisker "bite" is greatly reduced. Beefy, smoked and cured, has oak, almonds, marzipan, white pepper, cinnamon, oranges with cloves and a hint of hot tires and the smell of burning charcoal. Easy drinking for Talisker and good qpr.

  • Whisky-Club sample, round 1, sample 11. With Larissa. The Port Ruighe offered dark berries, malt, cedar, marzipan and smoke on the nose, and malt, pepper, menthol and smoke/charred wood on the palate. It was medium-bodied, with warming alcohol and very good length. I preferred this Port Ruighe to the chocolatier Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban for its slightly better balance and length. I love Talisker, but am just not into Port-finishing. Body 4/10, Smoke 5/10, Sweetness 3.5/10.
