  • A beauty of a drop! Dark ruby with signs of aging towards the rim. I left it to open for 30 mins, and after that - it was a cracker.
Nose was quite pronounced, lots of darker, spiced berries, forest cherries, and possibly a little hint of leather and game. Med - acid, med - tannins, med + body. good length. Tannins had melted into the wine, acid there to keep it in balance, but wouldn't leave it too much more than two years. The wine really developed in the glass, lots of nice spices, warm red fruits, leather and game. really enjoyed it!

  • Medium deep ruby red, paler rim with lighter density than last bottle. Medium intensity on the nose with tones of hibiscus, strawberry compote, dark cherry blood plum and an evident spicey background of clove, anise, cinnamon, light leather and a light china ink note. There are also some good earthy characteristics as wet soil.
On the palate sits lighter than expected but with quite good concentration.
Flowers and red fruits leads the palate with violets, dark red cherries, a blood orange acidity and quite a noticeable marzapan, almond lifting tone. There is also a hidden horse blanket and barnyard funky punch. Tannins are fine resolved with virtually no grip and quite a textural feeling. Down point is the finish which is pretty short but lead by supple red fruit. Overall a very good wine from a different terroir that feels like mimicking a chateauneuf du pape but in a leaner profile.

  • Christmas in July (Frank's place in Matraville): Very slight reductive on the nose though this dissipates with time. Earth, dirt, dense black fruits sweet tobacco, very slight candy floss (I wonder if there is any carbonic maceration), sweet spice. In the mouth the wine is dense with chewy, chalky tannins, black fruit carry and turn bitter on the medium plus length finish. touch warm. Meh.
