Gorgeous big rich oaky smoky toasty barrel palate. Nearly full bodied. Acidity high. Apple, pear, white peach. Long finish with moderate acidity. Drinking well now and will continue for many years. Not a hint of tertiary.

A pleasure to taste this 2013 Sauzet Batard Montrachet again. An outperformance for 2013 and frankly for Sauzet as well. 50% new oak. Nicely coiled reduction and sweet oak spices. Ripe white orchard fruits with sesame oil. Exuberant and rather powerful, yet nicely balanced with superb freshness. Proper Grand Cru intensity and length. Drink from 2020 – 2041. (91/100)

The 2013 Etienne Sauzet Batard Montrachet outperformed compared to the 2013 Leflaive Bienvenue Batard Montrachet served next to it. An energetic and creamy array of reductive white orchard fruits and ripe lemons. Voluminous with lovely oak spices and toast. Drinking well today and should age for the next decade. (91/100)

Served blind. Following a Leflaive Bienvenue Batard 13 the Sauzet had markedly more reduction on the nose. It felt quite crisp, smokey and concentrated. Thought it on the nose to be a Meursault possibly. Again not really what I typically would have associated with a 13 as it had a bit of volume to it also. Quite a strong showing I felt and bought a case on the back of that.

Opened last night. Yellow. Much bigger than the Bienvenue. Dominated by toasty oak. Average acidity. Sorry, but this just seems plodding and dull; I'd take the finer Bienvenue at this point.
