- Violet color and aromas of mint - Mencia varietal grape with thick skin and violet-blu color exhibits earthy, vegetal characters with berry nuances and stony minerality. Thought to be related to Cabernet franc grape but is found to be genetically identical to Portugal's Jaen. Wines at high altitude have a bright complexion with vivid maroon color, fresh acidity and tannins, and dark-fruit flavor so. With a herbal dimension of mint or thyme.

This is drinking better than I expected. Dark purple color with hints of floral and ink flavors.

Really fruit (red). Simple and tasty, probably better on its own than with food. $32 at Fainting Goat.

Bright, slightly grapey flavor but medium bodied and good finish.
