  • Too much oak for me right now. I'll try again in a year or 2.

  • Big golden colored and perhaps still a little closed. The wine drinks with oh so much vanilla and a bit of a brioche. There is a tremendous amount of oak present in the wine. Likely to continue to need more time. Hold for

  • A light straw color that does not hint at the richness that follows. A wine of many flavor layers, peach, apricot, and some pear with a balanced but prominent oak overlay. Great now but I imagine it will get more complex as the oak integrates more with time. A world class wine now but I will love to see how it evolves. Drink now for instant pleasure but wait to see if it can be a life changer later.

  • This stunning Chardonnay is drinking beautifully right now - rich, layered, and energetic. Light yellow in color, medium in body, nose of apricot, pear, and salt water. Tastes of cantaloupe, lemon, minerals, and almond, with a brioche-laced finish that goes on and on. 14.8% alcohol. The combination of grace and power is exceptional. Drink in next few years.

This is my favorite Peter Michael Chardonnay of the 10 I've had over the past three years. Some of the others were too oaky or too tight or just too big, but somehow this got it all right. I've actually enjoyed brother Luc Morlet's whites more during this time - a little softer, a little more open - but tasting this wine reminds me why I fell in love with PM in the first place.

  • At this stage, the 2014 Belle Côte is still dominated by new oak, rendering assessment difficult. Tropical fruit, coconut, and oaky spice on the nose. I hope this finds balance with time.
