  • Traci and I opened this last night to have with oven "fried" chicken, roasted sweet potato and steamed brocolli.

The nose on the wine showed earth and mushroom compote along with some dark fruit. On the palate the wine was pretty with more underbrush, red fruit, a little bit of orange blossom and citrus. Finish was a short-medium. All in all, I think it was a pretty tasty wine. My last bottle and I think we hit it about the right time....

  • Wow, this baby had a serious nose of blood/meat/funky earth out of the bottle. I was actually a bit put off by it initially, so I let it sit in my glass for about 20 minutes. Slowly, the thick dark nose receded to reveal dark fruit, pine, and still a meaty essence hanging around. The palate is alive with bright red fruit, shrooms, earth, and pepper amidst rather lively acidity. Finish is a tad strong and tight. I think some more time is needed here. Some notes on CT suggest this is open for business, not sure I agree. Not quite on the same level as the '02 Terraces which is the benchmark Melville pinot for me.

  • With the wife out of town and then being invited to a really great dinner on my street, I was in heaven. So, I pulled a 2001 Tandem Keefer and then in trying to pull the 2002 Melville High Density, I accidentally grabbed the 2002 Clone 115 and didn't notice until I had pulled the cork. So what did we find? Well, the wine is not what I expected. The nose is full of earthy, fragrant Pinot. Has that lifted nose of dark berry fruit. The wine is a mixture of zippy raspberry, along with blackberry, and there is an orange rind, clove and very racy finish. This is not a signature that I would associate with Melville so it was a nice surprise. The finish is still somewhat closed and tight, so I would suggest further cellaring of this wine so it hits the sweet spot.

  • Very well balanced wine. Restrained fruit with a nice spice box finish. Better than I remember and great with dinner.

  • We visited the winery yesterday and they were sold out- they claimed within 2 days of posting to mailing list, but we found a bottle at Bouchon later for dinner. The nose is very pure and very large with earth and forest, dark fruit well balanced on the palate with side acids and a long racy finish.Opened and poured and very ready to drink- with herbs de provence rubbed tuna seared then baked in salt crusted shell served over white bean pureee with roasted asparagus it was as good as it gets.
