Decanted an hour and was better second night so needs some time. After reading other reviews I was ready to toss it down the drain but was very pleasantly surprised. Dark cherry, leather. Well ablanced. weak spots in mid palate initially but after it opened, especially second day, these weak spots disappeared.

There must be a huge amount of bottle variation here, with scores ranging from 70 to 91.... Obviously I was very happy with my bottle, being prepared for the worst. Funny fact: one individual in my tasting group previously bought two bottle at the same store I got mine, and he returned one bottle....! Do not save this longer than another year or so, but if you're lucky to get one of the good bottle, you'll enjoy a fine bottle of typical Cote Rotie!

Tasted blind. The nose was quite nice with tart red fruit, some old wood, and savory notes. Lots of acidity with green olives and tart berries on the nose. Good length. This was (a bit surprisingly) a very nice wine, perfectly aged, but probably on the decline. There's a ton of acidity there, but probably not enough fruit to carry it much longer.

This isn’t worth 70 euros and certainly not Tanzer‘s 94. With less acid it would crack the 90 and become a LIKE for me. Might still do so after aeration. After 30 min decant it is neutral and 88 at most. Menthol barolo-like smell unfortunately somewhat too medicinal. Acid kills all redeeming qualities for now, which, to be fair, do include pretty berries taste and fairly grippy tannins. Not sure how Tanzer, who is normally a good indication (at least used to be in early 2000s) could have been so off... After 20 years, it is hard to say this, but could this be in need of another 3-5 years? Anyway Parker, whom I normally don't really follow, was much closer with his 86-88.
I once tried trousseau from some winery in Lodi and didn’t really like it. This comes close to it in my recollection.

Fatally evolved - beyond tertiary - shame as this was quite nice in its youth
