  • Seriously the most amazing bottle - cork took a lot of love to come out intact but as soon as it was open I was struck by how fresh it smelled and wasn’t disappointed. Garnet color with tawny bricking, still so alive with a nose of tart raspberry, really strong pyrazines, wet moss and forest floor with a touch of garden mint. The palate is so fresh, full and enveloping - surprisingly weighty mid palate and a spicy, drying finish that lasts and lasts. Truly an exceptional bottle.

  • The cork fell into the bottle when I tried to remove it with an Ah-So, so I decanted it, but fortunately the wine was in good shape. Classic Chinon notes of ripe raspberries, lots of earthy funk and soil, and some leafy pyrazine. Plus maybe a hint of Brett, but this is not overly horsey.
Still lots of fruit and extract on the palate supported by some earthy tannin with juicy acid. The tannins have a slight rusticity (this isn't Chambolle) but are not overly rough. Beautiful length. Not surprisingly, even better with food, which smooths out the structure. A really lovely mature example.

  • Best Joguet I’ve ever had. 93-94, magnum. Very pleasing.

  • During a tasting lunch. From Magnum. This goes down as the most interesting bottle of the lunch from an educational purpose. I have not had Cabernet Franc from Loire at this age. Medium brownish garnet. Very interesting nose with clear green and leafy components so typically for a CabFranc, intermixed with red fruit, earth and foresty notes. On the palate the wine was elegant and masculine at the same time, with fully dissolved tannins. A wine of character due to the leafy side of the grape varietal. Very nice.

  • PnP served non-blind over 2 hours. Still loads of funk, but after an hour, the fruit began to add some weight and complexity. Nice white peppercorn aromas surrounding a core of soft red (predominantly cherry) fruit. Medium bodied, acids seem to want to outlive the fruit and tannins. I think I missed the end of the preferred plateau by 3-4 years. 11-14% abv, drink now for best enjoyment.

(Charles Joguet Chinon "Du Clos de la Diotorie-V.V.") This was is what great Chinon is all about. Soaring nose of raspberries, fresh spring flowers, burnt hay, earth and fresh moss. Very pure palate that is lightweight but very flavorful. Tannins firm up on the finish and there is a raspberry fruit essence that just stays on the palate forever. Classy wine. Perfect expression aged Cabernte Franc.
