This wine is named for the vineyard’s rocky soil and the historic railroad nearby. It’s a selection from the estate’s very best barrels. 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 15% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc.
This would certainly give any Virginia Cab blend – and really almost any from California at this price – a run for its money.

This is improving with age, similar notes to before, but adding some Bordeaux like qualities of forest floor, balsamic background, still with medium plus tannins, medium alcohol. Showing quite well now.

Comes from rocky soil alongside an old railroad yard. Medium nose shows light earth tones, menthol, black cherry, raspberry, gravel hint. Palate gives nice balance of fruit and structure, medium bodied for both, light black fruit, blackberry, bramble, red fruit like raspberry, light spice in there, pink peppercorn, finishes drier than most their lineup, medium tannins. Solid value.

I really enjoyed this wine, especially the astringency. Very impressive for a NC wine or any wine. They say it is in a Bordeaux style, and I agree.

Not bad for a North Carolina wine. Lacks depth.
