Deep garnet with opaque core and purple and brick hues at the meniscus. Nose of plumbs, light cedar, and black fruit. Light to medium weight on the tongue and soft but not plush tannins. Palate is rich in black fruits and oak charters of vanilla and coconut. Long finish with layers of fruit, spice, and vanilla all very well integrated. Excellent balance of flavors. 16/20

A very pleasant surprise! This wine improved steadily throughout the night, showcasing strong fruit and smooth tannins (and some "residual grapidity"). Easily the best Merlot (with some help from Cabernet and Petit Verdot) I've had in several years.
