  • After a good bottle previously, bought few more from the same auction house. Bricking at the edge, looked the part of an aged Burgundy. Clean nose just slightly funky, smelled a bit like an old Syrah. Good mouthfeel, still showing some tannins bites surprisingly. Sweet on the front with some bitterness at backend. Dusty and earthy finish. Still retained plenty of power, must be a really tough wine on its youth, much more civilized now but wouldn’t call it refined. Great acidity and concentration will keep this going for a few more years.

  • PnP. No ABV on the label but my guess it was less than 13%. €137.50 before taxes and shipping charges. Clean nose, lightly floral with some dark soils notes, not super expressive at the moment. Sweet tannins and mostly resolved, Grand Cru density and length. Never faded over 2 hours lunch. True to its origin, robust, sturdy, and blue-collar like but not rustic. Drinking quite well now with years ago. Another wonderful showing of ‘85 Corton.

  • Tasting Corton Grancey and Clos de Tart from the 1985 vintage with Mike at Yans with Alex Yan cooking the duck for our Red Burgundy lunch.
Very floral nose of red cherry with hints of black cherry, roasted meat, and bacon, more of the same on the palate, big body, beefier and richer fruit than the Clos de Tart, elegant tasting, great wine during the two hour lunch, well paired with the roasted duck, showing its age, time to drink up, and long, long finish.

  • Definitely a very special bottle at this age, but it's difficult to put a numerical score to it. It needed a medium decant to wake up, but when it did it showed remarkable depth (note: not concentration) of flavor. Toasted baking spices were the highlight for me, running all throughout the completely integrated and sublimely mellow palette. Pairing with food requires caution. We decided it was best to savor along with a selection of cheeses...the "stinkier" the better. Drink now, it's not going to get any younger.

  • A nice mature Burg that should probably be drunk soon. Wouldn't expect this to have a ton of complexity and it doesn't, but there's plenty of sweet fruit and just enough tannin to balance it out.
